## Installation support for new, used and relocated machinery

A machine installation needs to account for the equipment, its condition and how it will operate in your factory. PMI brings practical machinery knowledge and control\-system expertise together to plan and carry out that work.

We support installation enquiries involving CNC machinery, woodworking and metalworking equipment, and automated production systems. Our practical experience includes [HOMAG woodworking machinery](https://precisionmachineindustries.com/brands/homag/), CNC machining, nesting and automated material handling.

### New machinery installation

Introduce new equipment with the engineering support needed to connect it with your site and production requirements. We review the installation information, machine services and interfaces, then plan the machinery work and commissioning sequence with you and the equipment supplier where needed.

### Second\-hand CNC and woodworking machinery

A used machine needs to be understood in the context of its previous installation and its new application.

PMI reviews the equipment’s condition, available documentation, control configuration and connections to other machinery. This helps identify what is needed to install and commission it at your site, including issues carried over from its previous operating arrangement.

### Reinstallation and recommissioning after a move

Moving machinery within a factory or to new premises brings mechanical setup, connections and operating checks back into focus.

PMI provides installation and recommissioning support at the receiving site. If the project also involves dismantling and removal, discuss our [machine moves and decommissioning services](https://precisionmachineindustries.com/services/machine-moves/) as part of the same enquiry.

## Commissioning the machine, controls and connected equipment

Effective commissioning follows the way the complete machine operates. PMI combines machinery experience with specialist automation knowledge to check the relevant systems and resolve problems during setup.

### Mechanical setup and machine services

We review the machine’s installation requirements, mechanical condition and the assemblies and connections involved in bringing it into operation.

The receiving\-site plan also considers the services the equipment needs, such as electrical power, compressed air, extraction and vacuum. Identifying these requirements early helps keep the installation and commissioning work moving.

### CNC controls, PLCs and operator interfaces

We investigate startup and operating issues involving CNC controls, PLCs, HMIs, machine inputs and outputs, and the signals needed to enable operation.

Our controls experience includes [Beckhoff and TwinCAT systems](https://precisionmachineindustries.com/brands/beckhoff/), EtherCAT communications and CODESYS, alongside Bosch Rexroth/IndraDrive and Inovance equipment. We use that knowledge to understand the installed system and trace commissioning problems through the equipment involved.

### Axis referencing, drives and machine functions

Commissioning checks follow the machine’s motion system and operating sequence. Relevant areas include axis referencing and homing, drive enable conditions, limit signals, sensors and commanded movement.

Depending on the equipment, the work also considers functions such as spindle operation, tool changing, clamping, pneumatic equipment and vacuum readiness. This connects individual component checks with the sequence the machine needs to complete.

### Interfaces between machines and production equipment

A CNC machine may depend on signals from a conveyor, loading system, automated store or another machine before it can run.

PMI investigates machine\-to\-machine interfaces, including ready signals, transport requests, release confirmations and cycle\-complete signals. We also trace industrial network communication problems that interrupt the exchange of information between connected devices.

Where machinery is being installed in a different arrangement, we review the control interfaces and identify the configuration or engineering changes needed for its intended operation.

## Machine will not start after installation or relocation?

If your machine has arrived but will not run, PMI can investigate the commissioning problem and establish the work needed to move forward.

Typical issues include:

- The machine powers up but will not start an automatic cycle.
- A servo drive will not enable, or a CNC axis will not reference.
- EtherCAT devices report communication faults after reconnection.
- The control reports missing air pressure, vacuum readiness or another operating condition.
- The machine is waiting for a conveyor, saw or loading\-system signal.
- Individual functions work in manual mode, but the automatic sequence stops.

We trace the reported symptoms through the machine’s controls, electrical equipment, mechanical condition and interfaces, taking account of what changed during the installation or move.

## Plan the installation around your site and production

Good preparation gives the installation a clear sequence and helps identify dependencies before the machine arrives.

We work through the practical requirements with you, including:

- **Machine details:** manufacturer, model, condition, dimensions and available installation information.
- **Site access and layout:** delivery access, internal routes, intended position and space around the equipment.
- **Machine services:** power, compressed air, extraction, vacuum and connections to surrounding systems.
- **Documentation and controls:** available drawings, manuals, software backups and details of previous modifications.
- **Commissioning arrangements:** required operating functions, test materials, operator involvement and the production schedule.

Crane/HIAB lifting, haulage and electrical disconnection are subcontracted where required. The machinery work, specialist responsibilities and timing are agreed before work starts.

## Commissioning checks and handover

We agree commissioning checks around the machine and the operation you need it to perform. These can include individual functions, machine sequences and interaction with connected equipment, with any production trials planned around the required materials and operator input.

At handover, we explain the work completed, the commissioning findings and any outstanding actions. You have a clear understanding of the machine’s status and the next steps.

PMI also provides [planned machine maintenance](https://precisionmachineindustries.com/services/machine-maintenance/) and [CNC service and repair](https://precisionmachineindustries.com/services/cnc-service-repair/) to support the equipment as it enters regular use.

## Machine installation and commissioning FAQs

### Can you install a second\-hand CNC machine bought from another supplier?

Yes. PMI provides independent installation and commissioning support for second\-hand machinery. Send the machine make and model, its current condition, your site location and any available documentation so we can establish the installation requirements.

### Can you help if a machine was previously connected to another production line?

Yes. A machine may still expect operating signals from equipment used in its previous installation, such as a conveyor, saw or automated loading system.

PMI can investigate those interfaces and assess the control configuration and engineering changes needed for the new arrangement. We consider how the machine is intended to operate before agreeing and carrying out the required work.

### Can you help with commissioning if the machine is already on site?

Yes. Contact PMI if the machine has been delivered, partly installed or reconnected but commissioning is incomplete.

Tell us what work has already been done, which functions operate and where startup stops. Photographs of the machine identification plate and any alarm messages provide a useful starting point.

## Discuss your machine installation

Put specialist machinery and controls expertise behind your next installation.

Send us the machine make and model, whether it is new, used or being relocated, your site location and your preferred timing. Include photographs, installation information and details of any connected equipment where available.

PMI supports installation and commissioning projects across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
