Bosch Rexroth and IndraDrive fault diagnosis

An IndraDrive alarm can stop an otherwise capable CNC or production machine.

PMI investigates Bosch Rexroth drive and motion faults across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, combining IndraWorks and DriveTop experience with practical understanding of the machine being driven.

We help establish whether the next step is work on wiring or feedback, parameter investigation, component replacement or a planned control upgrade.

Read the alarm in the context of the axis

The alarm code is the starting point. When it appears also matters: during power-up, drive enable, referencing, acceleration or a particular movement under load.

We investigate the relationship between the drive, motor, feedback system and machine control to identify the conditions behind the stoppage. The work can address:

  • A servo drive that will not enable or reach its ready state.
  • Motor-feedback and encoder faults.
  • Referencing problems or lost position after component replacement.
  • Following errors, unstable movement or repeated trips during a cycle.
  • Sercos communication or drive start-up faults on equipped systems.
  • Parameter or configuration problems following a drive or control-section change.

This approach helps distinguish a drive fault from an issue in the connected equipment and defines the work required to restore dependable motion.

Put IndraWorks and DriveTop information to work

Drive status, diagnostics and parameter information can reveal why an axis behaves differently from the command it receives.

PMI’s practical experience with IndraWorks and DriveTop supports investigation of the installed system. The appropriate software and access depend on the drive generation and firmware.

Where information is available, we review relevant parameters, fault history and operating conditions alongside machine signals and physical checks. Existing parameter backups are particularly useful when a fault follows replacement work or a configuration change.

Identify the complete drive and motor assembly

Rexroth component sourcing starts with the full equipment identity. Power ratings and family names alone leave important options unresolved.

For a drive or motor enquiry, include:

  • Complete type codes and part numbers for the drive, power section and control section, as applicable.
  • The motor nameplate, including feedback and brake details where shown.
  • Communication-interface and firmware information.
  • Machine identification, the exact reported fault and any available parameter backup.

These details allow supply ratings, motor feedback, interfaces and configuration to be considered together. They also help identify where a proposed alternative would need additional engineering or recommissioning.

Choose a practical route for the machine’s remaining life

PMI brings fault investigation and parts sourcing into the same discussion. That is valuable when the original component is difficult to obtain or a replacement needs to work with an established machine control.

We assess the identified requirement and the available route, which may involve a suitable replacement component or a planned upgrade. Availability and supply terms are confirmed for the actual enquiry.

For wider changes, our CNC retrofit assessment considers the relationship between the controller, drives, motors and existing machine functions.

Rexroth drive questions

Does a servo alarm mean the drive itself has failed?

The alarm may relate to the drive, motor, feedback, cabling, supply or the commands and conditions provided by the machine control. The exact alarm and the circumstances in which it appears help direct the investigation.

Will an IndraDrive with the same power rating replace mine?

Compatibility depends on more than power. The control section, feedback arrangement, communication interface, firmware and machine configuration can all affect suitability. Send the full identities of both units so the proposed replacement can be assessed.

Can you help when a Rexroth component is obsolete?

Yes. Send the complete part identification and explain its role in the machine. PMI can investigate sourcing options and assess replacement implications, including whether configuration changes or a wider upgrade should be considered.

Start with the alarm and the nameplates

Send clear photographs of the drive and motor labels, the exact fault and when it occurs. Include your site location and any recent replacement or parameter work.
