PLC, HMI, drive and industrial network fault finding
A PLC alarm, HMI message or drive fault is a starting point for investigation, not proof that a controller needs replacement. Begin with the equipment already installed, how it communicates and what the machine is expected to do. Available schematics, equipment lists and version information help establish the boundaries of the enquiry.
Control and operator interface
Identify the PLC, CNC or machine controller and the HMI or operator terminal. Include model numbers, visible software versions and the exact behaviour that needs investigation or change.
Drives, motors and feedback
Record the drive, motor and feedback-device identities as a connected set. Ratings, encoder arrangements, option codes, firmware and the mechanical duty can matter when compatibility is assessed.
I/O and communications
Describe remote I/O, fieldbus or EtherCAT equipment and any third-party systems at the affected interface. A network alarm may be a consequence of power, wiring or another device rather than a controller fault.
Relevant controls and machinery experience
PMI's confirmed experience includes Beckhoff and TwinCAT, Bosch Rexroth/IndraDrive with IndraWorks and DriveTop, Inovance, and CODESYS-based environments, alongside practical CNC and machinery work. The exact product family, generation and software access are confirmed before support is agreed.

Define the automation fault or proposed machine change
A useful brief explains the operational problem, the required outcome and the production constraints, not only the component suspected. Existing drawings, backups and a history of recent changes can help determine whether the work is fault investigation, compatibility assessment or a proposed alteration to the installed system.
No software, parameter or hardware change should be assumed from the initial symptom. The affected functions, access, responsibilities and way the machine will be assessed after the work need to be understood for the particular application.
Automation parts replacement or wider modernisation?
Where equipment is obsolete or difficult to support, the immediate requirement and the machine's longer-term position may point to different decisions. PMI can assess the available evidence and discuss whether the enquiry remains centred on an identified component or should become a retrofit assessment. Neither route is treated as a universal drop-in solution.

What should an automation enquiry include?
Include the machine and process, control and HMI identities, drive and motor details where relevant, the exact symptom or required change, available drawings or backups, site location and the production window. Label photographs help when model and option codes are difficult to transcribe.
Does PMI support Beckhoff, Rexroth or Inovance equipment?
PMI has confirmed independent experience with Beckhoff/TwinCAT, Bosch Rexroth and IndraDrive, Inovance, CODESYS, IndraWorks and DriveTop. Support still depends on the specific product, generation, access and application, which are checked before a scope is agreed.
Can a similar-looking drive or motor be fitted as a replacement?
Appearance or connector type is not enough to establish compatibility. Electrical ratings, feedback, communications, firmware, option codes, configuration and the mechanical duty may all need to be checked as part of the installed system.
When does an obsolete component become a retrofit question?
That depends on the supportability of the existing architecture, the role of the component and the machine's intended future use. A retrofit assessment can compare the wider implications without assuming that full replacement is automatically the right answer.
