PMI provides independent CNC service, fault finding and repair support for woodworking and metalworking machinery across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. When a machine stops or develops an intermittent fault, we consider the control, drives, motion system, interfaces and machine condition together before agreeing an investigation or repair route.

CNC breakdown enquiries: machine details and alarm evidence

A clear account of what happened can shorten the first discussion and help determine whether site investigation is appropriate. If it is safe to do so, record the exact alarm text, the operating step at which the fault appeared and any change immediately before it. Avoid repeatedly resetting the machine simply to remove an alarm.

Machine identity

Provide the machine manufacturer, model, serial number where available, and the identity of the existing CNC or machine control. Photographs of equipment labels can be more reliable than a typed description.

Fault evidence

Include the exact message or code, when it appears, whether the fault is repeatable or intermittent, and any observations from the operator. Fault-screen photographs may help where motion or timing is relevant.

Production state

Explain whether the machine is completely stopped, can operate with restrictions or has returned to service. Note any recent maintenance, component changes or previous investigation, and identify available drawings, manuals or backups without sending passwords or access credentials.

CNC control, drive and machine fault finding

An alarm does not always identify the failed item. A drive message may originate in a motor, feedback device, supply, safety condition, network or mechanical load; a control symptom may depend on an external sensor or machine sequence. PMI approaches the reported symptom as part of an installed system rather than assuming that the named component must be replaced.

The first conversation is used to understand the evidence, access requirements and production priority. The next step may be further information gathering, a site visit, identification of a component route or a wider controls assessment. That decision depends on the individual machine and cannot be predetermined from a web form.

Independent machinery and controls experience

PMI's confirmed experience includes HOMAG machinery, CNC equipment, Beckhoff, Bosch Rexroth and IndraDrive, and Inovance, with work involving TwinCAT, CODESYS, IndraWorks and DriveTop. This is independent engineering experience and does not imply appointment, authorisation or endorsement by any manufacturer.

Model, generation, software version and available machine information still need to be established before support is agreed. Experience with a manufacturer or platform does not by itself confirm access, compatibility or a successful repair route for every machine.

Arrange the next step for service or repair support

Send the machine details, symptoms, town or county and required timing through the breakdown enquiry. Explain whether you need help with a stopped CNC machine, an intermittent alarm or a recurring fault. PMI will review the information and discuss what can reasonably be assessed next. Parts availability, site access, third-party equipment and the nature of an intermittent fault can all affect the scope and timing.

Questions about your requirement

What information should I send with a CNC breakdown enquiry?

Send the machine make and model, control identity, exact alarm text, when the fault occurs, whether production is stopped, the site location and any useful label or fault-screen photographs. Mention recent work and available documentation, but do not send passwords or remote-access credentials.

Does an alarm code prove which component has failed?

Not necessarily. The code is useful evidence, but the underlying cause can involve power, feedback, communications, safety circuits, mechanical load or another part of the machine sequence. The installed system needs to be considered before a replacement route is chosen.

Can PMI guarantee an immediate visit or repair?

No. Availability, access and the investigation scope must be confirmed for the specific enquiry. An initial discussion can establish the most useful next step, but it cannot guarantee attendance time, parts availability or a repair outcome.

Do you only work on one CNC manufacturer?

No. PMI provides independent engineering support and has confirmed experience across HOMAG machinery and controls including Beckhoff, Bosch Rexroth/IndraDrive and Inovance. The exact machine, control generation and support requirement are checked before work is agreed.
