Provide diameter, depth and relevant drawing requirements. State whether the request repeats an existing tool or concerns a different operation.
Identify the drill and connection
Include available drill markings, documented geometry and shank or connection details. Share the current product specification where available rather than assuming all drills of one diameter are equivalent.
Preserve the thread specification
Include the standard or designation, size, pitch or threads per inch, handedness and class or tolerance where specified. Distinguish an internal-thread requirement from an external-thread requirement.
Describe the process and equipment
State whether the operation is manual or machine-based and include relevant hole or workpiece information. Identify the existing tool and holder where known; selection needs the actual job specification.

Can I order a drill by diameter alone?
Diameter does not describe the entire tool. Length, connection, material and application requirements also need identification.
Can I enquire about drilling and threading tools together?
Yes. Include the required quantities, material and complete hole and thread specifications. Each tool is assessed against its own requirements; grouping them in one enquiry does not establish that they form a suitable matched set.
Is nominal thread size enough?
No. The complete thread specification can include pitch, handedness and tolerance requirements that must remain explicit.
Can I substitute a similar tap or die?
Do not assume equivalence. Check the thread specification, tool identity and process requirements before substitution.
