V-Groove Bit

V-groove router bits cut an angled groove form for suitable woodworking and panel-detailing operations. The included angle and tip geometry distinguish tools that may otherwise look similar. Describe the intended groove, lettering or edge detail and provide the material specification when asking PMI to identify a sourcing option.

Specify the angle and groove form

Provide the included angle from the drawing or existing tool data, together with the required groove width and depth. Identify whether the design expects a pointed base or a defined flat at the tip. The groove form depends on the cutter geometry, so nominal cutting diameter alone does not identify the required profile.

Separate decorative routing from specialist folding tools

V-carving and decorative grooves in timber or board are not interchangeable with every tool described as a V-groove cutter. Specialist panel-folding tools can have different tip forms and material requirements. State the actual substrate and application; do not transfer a cutter recommendation from another process without product-specific evidence.

Identify the complete tool or insert

Include the manufacturer code, shank diameter, cutting height and overall length. For replaceable-knife designs, provide both the body and knife identities rather than only the angle. Share relevant artwork or feature dimensions where they clarify the enquiry, while confirming the final process and operating limits against the selected tool and machine documentation.

Questions about your requirement

Are all V-groove cutters the same angle?

No. The included angle and tip form must match the intended feature. Quote the drawing requirement or complete existing tool code.

Can a V-carving bit also be used for panel folding?

Do not assume so. Panel-folding tools can be designed for particular substrates and residual groove forms; the actual tool specification must explicitly support the application.
